In Raleigh and Charlotte, groups of peace activists from North Carolina left early Saturday to join the rally in Washington.
More than 60 people from the Triangle boarded buses before dawn and said the rally was the most important yet.
"Invading Iraq would be a disaster," said Wendy Michener of N.C. Alternatives to War, "would be absolutely a disaster for the United States and for the world as well as Iraq."
Activists also planned vigil in Charlotte, Durham and Greensboro
