Presidential pique[Back to Top | Back to List of Articles ]News and Observer; March 15, 2003; Arnold R. Post
Since News and Observer columnist Dennis Rogers is well positioned to have an informed opinion, it seems strange to me that he decides questions of war and peace and international behavior on the basis of a request attributable to an innocent 5-year-old child.
To this outsider, it seems only that he is intensely sincere in his desire for a pre-emptive strike against Iraq, a country that has not harmed us nor threatens to.
What actually is the basis for his belief that this war on Iraq is for something more worthy than presidential pique? The president, himself, does not seem to have a clear idea about what the war is for; and he is ending up doing for Osama bin Laden what bin Laden wants done in Iraq.
