Impeach Bush for failed policies

(Chapel Hill News; 1/25/03; Ruth Zalph)

As the drum roll for war against Iraq is growing louder, the voice of reason is being hushed and I am scared stiff.

It is no surprise that the people of France, Germany, England, Japan, China, Russia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Europe and Turkey have taken to the streets to register their opposition to war. So have Americans of all racial, religious, economic, and social status loudly raised their voices against a preemptive American military strike against Iraq.

Current and retired military personnel have joined the ranks of academicians in challenging the wisdom of an attack on Iraq without Security Council endorsement. These patriots prefer diplomacy and international law to military force to rid Iraq of weapons of mass destruction, which we have yet to find.

President Bush has failed, so far, to show a clear and present danger to our land from Iraq. The Bush foreign policy defies international law, justifying the mass killing of innocent people to prevent them from killing us first. Does this make sense? I think not. Our servicemen and women will pay the ultimate price for our shortsighted, tunnel-vision foreign policy.

A war fought without first being attacked is immoral and illegal by international rules of war. War without end against any country Mr. Bush deems a " rogue nation" or part of the " axis of evil" leaves Americans more fearful today than right after 9/11.

Violence cannot be fought with violence, for each round brings greater and bloodier violence.

Francis Boyle, a professor law, has written an impeachment resolution against President Bush for high crimes and misdemeanors, being in violation of the Constitution, the U.N. Charter, the Nuremberg Charter and numerous other international treaties and agreements.

As proud Americans, it is our democratic responsibility to demand that our representatives introduce the impeachment resolution in the House immediately. The law of unintended consequences must be evaluated before we rush to war.
