Congress appears to be rushing headlong toward authorizing war against Iraq. This, despite all of the troubling, unanswered questions about whether and how such a dangerous, provocative action will advance U.S. security or world peace in the long run.

Your leadership is urgently needed to prevent this war and to send this issue to the UN for the international community to address through cooperative, multilateral, peaceful means. I hope you will do two things:

1) Please vote "no" on any resolution that would authorize the President to wage war against Iraq.

2) Please cosponsor H. CON. RES. 473, a non-binding resolution "expressing the sense of Congress with respect to the importance of the United States working through the United Nations to assure Iraq's compliance with United Nations Security Council resolutions and advance peace and security in the Persian Gulf region. . . through mechanisms such as the resumption of weapons inspections, negotiation, enquiry, mediation, regional arrangements, and other peaceful means."

Thank you for your consideration.
