Voting machines threaten fair elections in U.S.

Chapel Hill News; 6/10/03; Marnie Clark

New voting machines are being installed where voting will be by computer. The voter just touches the screen for each choice.

This will save time and avoid butterfly ballots, but:

  1. There will be no paper record, no way for an unbiased check or verification of the results.
  2. More important, there will be no way for an ombudsman to check how the computer has been programmed.
This could be the end of fair and free elections in the United States.
