Faxable letter to Representatives regarding the Budget[Back to Top | Back to List of Articles ]Dear ________________________,
The President would give tens of billions more to the military to fight an expanding, global war against terrorism. Yet he would invest relatively paltry sums in efforts to address the conditions around the world that give rise to terrorist movements or to strengthen international cooperation to reduce the threat of terrorism and bring its perpetrators to justice through the rule of international law.
He would expand tax cuts primarily for the wealthiest individuals and corporations while providing relatively few new resources either to support the millions of low and middle income families who have lost jobs recently or to expand access to affordable, quality health care, housing, child care, and public transportation for low-income working families and the elderly.
He would cut funding for the Environmental Protection Agency and ignore opportunities to use the federal budget to provide effective, global leadership to address global warming and reduce U.S. over-reliance on oil and other fossil fuels.
Human security will not be advanced by giving tens of billions more to the military. As Congress prepares its budget resolution, we urge you to support shifting budget priorities away from military spending toward addressing other critical human security concerns.
Sincerely:
