Are You a C.O. and How Can You Prove It?

Many of our 18-year-old young people have sought support from our Meeting to declare a position as a Conscientious Objector, or CO.

A CO is someone who, based upon moral, ethical, and/or religious beliefs, opposes personal participation in any and all war.

Currently, the U.S. has no draft, but it does have a Selective Service System (SSS) where all 18-year-old men must register within 30 days of their 18th birthday. For those young people who may be inclined to be CO’s, the Meeting encourages them to make a statement to that effect when they register, or during their first contact with SSS (legally meaning the 30 day window after turning 18 years old).
